Local Government Reform – Committee Review

When the prescribed intent of the Local Government Act., is to create “greater community participation in the decisions and affairs of local governments; and greater accountability of local governments to their communities” and in disregard for both the “rule of law” and Council’s Policy on Committee constitution, why is Melville’s ‘director legal and governance contradicting both legislation and Policy by recommending the exclusion of community from Council advisory committee membership? Why is he promoting the inclusion of the CEO as a member of the ARIC committee when the legislation prohibits any employee membership? And why is he further recommending the dissolution of three committees to have their roles absorbed into the legislated Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee (ARIC)?
